Origins of the game

[edit]

Water polo originated in England - why does it say Scotland? Please correct this error. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 51.6.69.51 (talk) 14:19, 9 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Change FINA to World Aquatics?

[edit]

Noticed that FINA is listed as the highest governing body, but when following the link it says FINA has been changed to World Aquatics. Lartan18 (talk) 18:28, 5 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I am a waterpolo player I play for elmhurst waterpolo (EA) too. I would like if I could edit it just in case I find any misstakes.[reply]
Not done: it's not clear what changes you want to be made. Please mention the specific changes in a "change X to Y" format and provide a reliable source if appropriate. Cannolis (talk) 05:05, 18 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed summary for technical prose

[edit]

I've been using Google's Gemini 2.5 Pro Experimental large language model to create summaries for the most popular articles with {{Technical}} templates. This article, Water polo, has such a template above the entire article. Here is the paragraph summary at grade 5 reading level which Gemini 2.5 Pro suggested:

Water polo is a fun but tough game played in a deep swimming pool between two teams. Each team has seven players, one of whom is a goalie who guards the net. The main idea is to score points by throwing a special ball that floats into the other team's goal. Players have to swim and tread water the whole game because they usually can't touch the bottom of the pool. They pass the ball to teammates and try to shoot it past the goalie. Players wear special caps to protect their ears and show which team they are on. Water polo started in Scotland many years ago and is now played around the world, even in the Olympics.

While I have read and may have made some modifications to that summary, I am not going to add it to the article because I want other editors to review, revise if appropriate, and add it instead. This is an experiment with a few dozen articles initially to see how these suggestions are received, and after a week or two, I will decide how to proceed. Thank you for your consideration. Use of LLM needs to be discussed by the entire Wikipedia community, not just those interested in one article. You can start at WP:Village pump. Sundayclose (talk) 16:14, 2 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
