I am very familiar with the history of Protestant missions in Chengdu. I'm currently writing a book on the subject. The section with the subtitle "Religion" describes only the events of the Canadian Methodist Mission, and does not consider the other missions that were there before the CMM. The China Inland Mission (1877), the American Methodists (1882), London Missionary Society (1888), British Friends (1889), American Baptists (1890) and the British Church Missionary Society (1891) were all established in Sichuan before the CMM. I don't know off hand the dates when several of these put down roots in Chengdu, but certainly this question should be considered before claiming that the CMM was the first to do anything. I do know that the American Methodists had built a hospital in Chengdu before the CMM built theirs. If I have time, I will attempt to address this issue, but first I'm reaching out in hopes that the author will attempt to correct the facts in their work. Are we just going to ignore the fact that the article mentions literally everything about this city but the topic 'politics' just does not exist ? Letzebuergerr (talk) 10:17, 26 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
